We had an extraordinary one night stay at the Elephant Lodge and we wish that we had stayed longer. We were the only guests at the lodge and the staff treated us like royalty. We were greeted on our arrival with special drinks and were shown around the property. They take special attention to make the lodge very eco friendly, yet still luxurious. While having our first drinks, an elephant walked out of the bush to the drinking pond about 25 feet away from us and proceeded to get a big drink and bath himself. Each room is a separate building created from shipping containers with a sitting area on the roof looking out over the bush. While having our first drink, we met the chef who is from Portugal and arranged for dinner at 7:00.After getting cleaned up and changed, we walked back for dinner only to have an extraordinary experience. The dining area is outdoors under the open sky and stars looking over the swimming pool, elephant pool, and into the bush. Since we were the only two guests, our table for two was set up in the center of the dining area with a white table cloth, candle, and wine glasses surrounded by twinkle lights in the trees and over the dining area. While have the our first glass of wine, the chef came out and described in detail each of the five courses we were about to have. With three chefs in the kitchen making our dinners, two wait staff attending to our every need, and the manager pouring our wine, the dinner could not have been any better.When dinner was finished, they had a big bonfire going out under the stars. One of the staff pulled out a guitar and began singing. Before long two other staff were singing and dancing around the bonfire.When we were finished, one of the Masai tribesmen with a spear walked us back to our container room since wild animals often walk through the camp.We strongly recommend staying at this lodge.
